How does the pace calculator work?
Pace, time, and distance are connected by three simple relationships. The calculator converts every distance to kilometers internally, completes the selected equation, and then returns both U.S. and metric results.
Time = pace × distance
Distance = time ÷ pace
One international mile equals exactly 1.609344 kilometers. That conversion is used for every mile-to-kilometer calculation.
Three calculation modes
Calculate Pace uses distance and elapsed time. Calculate Time uses distance and pace. Calculate Distance uses elapsed time and pace.

Understanding splits and equivalent times
Checkpoint splits show cumulative elapsed time at regular mile or kilometer markers. Common-distance equivalents show the finish time that the same mathematical pace would produce for 400 meters, 5K, 10K, a half marathon, and a marathon.
These equivalents are not race predictions. Holding the same pace over a longer distance can be physiologically unrealistic.
How to use the pace calculator
- Select Pace, Time, or Distance.
- Choose a common distance or enter a custom one when required.
- Enter elapsed time or pace in the visible fields.
- Select Calculate.
- Review mile pace, kilometer pace, speed, equivalents, and checkpoint splits.
- Use Copy, Download, or Print to save the result.
Using pace in a training plan
Pace can help compare workouts, but it should be interpreted alongside terrain, temperature, recovery, and perceived effort. Energy estimates are a different calculation; use the calorie calculator when you need a daily energy-planning estimate.
New runners and walkers should build distance gradually. A single fast split does not establish a sustainable race pace.
Accuracy and limitations
The result is only as accurate as the entered distance and time. GPS devices can over- or under-measure routes, especially near tall buildings, tree cover, tunnels, and sharp turns.
Course certification, track measurements, treadmill calibration, stops, auto-pause, and rounding can all create differences between calculated and recorded pace.
